2016 Word of The Year

One of the things that has become a big action step at the beginning of every new year is choosing a "word of the year". Picking out one word that you will focus on for the next 365 days and strive to incorporate every angle of that word into their daily life.

Recently there was a silly Facebook quiz floating around that would generate your word for 2016. Some people were really liking the word that was generated for them, and of course, others were not so happy with it.

I took the quiz and the word that came up was "Wisdom". I liked the idea of the word and I even considered making that my word of the year. I started to think about what that particular word means and how to apply it to my life. Ultimately, however, I made the decision that there was another word I wanted to focus on. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with wanting to focus on wisdom, but the word I have decided to focus on I believe will aid in gaining more wisdom.

So what is the word I am focusing on?

CONSISTENCY

As I took time to think back through 2015 and even into some of 2014 I noticed that I am really good about getting things started. Working out on a regular basis, blogging, reading, journaling, you name it I will start out and do great for about 2 weeks. Then life tends to take over. And I let go of all those promises I made to myself and go back to old bad habits.

I started out by looking up the definition of consistency. There were several options but the one that stood out most to me in this context is:

The more and more I read that definition the more I realized I don't have a steadfast adherence when I set goals or outcomes for myself.

My next step was to find out what the Bible has to say about consistency. As I expected most of the verses I found focused on the consistency of God. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. When He said He was going to do something or not do something all throughout the Bible He held to His word. That was a clear reminder of what I need to be striving toward.

However, the verses that stood out to me the most, as a biblical application to my word of the year was found in Matthew. It was then echoed in James.

This verse is a reminder to me that I need to be consistent not only in my actions and my promises I make to myself but I also need to be consistent in the way that I deal with my kiddos. When I tell them I will do something I need to do it. When I have to discipline them I need to be consistent in how I handle each situation.

As I focus on becoming more consistent in my actions and in my speech I am hoping that I will see a turn around in how things run in my home. WISH ME LUCK!

Do you have a word for the year? If so, what is it?

  1. I love your word for 2016, particularly that the scriptures you looked up all speak of HIS consistency and HIS character. What a truth that is!
